This action research explored theory about strategies to create a student-centered classroom atmosphere. Through the change of teaching practices in both instructional and management levels it pretended to change the atmosphere from a teacher-centered towards a student centered. This research developed two interventions based on: students’ three types of engagement Davis, Summers & Miller (2012) and the Consistency Discipline and Cooperative Management Program (Jerome-Freiberg, Huzinec, & Templeton, 2009). It adopted a qualitative methodology because of three reasons: a qualitative research is effective in obtaining specific information, it adapts around the relation between the researcher/participants, and data collection could be valid without including every participant. It used three data collection methods: questionnaires, interviews and a field diary, which presented the strategies to be successful. On the whole, this research had reviewed strategies which developed a student-centered classroom atmosphere, yet it also presented interesting future challenges
