The most effective strategies for building broad student understanding of classroom instructions in the 10th grade EFL context

Tesis para optar al grado de Profesora de Inglés Versión impresa disponible en la Biblioteca Universidad Alberto Hurtado The purpose of this investigation was understand what were the most useful strategies to help learners from a 10th grade broadly understand classroom instructions in an EFL context. To achieve the purpose of this inquiry, two specific classroom management techniques were applied, CCQ and modelling. Moreover, as this investigation was qualitative, it was required to conduct a focus group conversation with the students and an interview with the guiding teacher to express their perceptions and opinions about the main topic. Also, observations played an important role in identifying the effectiveness of the strategies. In relation to the findings, the strategies applied were found to be the most useful strategies in order to give clear and understandable instructions in the context of the research. Additionally, students expressed their preferences regarding their mother tongue when receiving instructions
