Any profession arises inside a country for diverse specific needs that appear in the course of his existence. In case of the Librarians, the motivations of the creation of a formal instance for his education are deeply related to the information needs of the Chilean intelligentsia and the creation of institutions of higher education. Together with this it is fundamental to stress the influence and the support of the American government to form professional Chilean librarians. There appears in this investigation an important critique of historical elements, which report facts happened between the year 1913 and 1972; as well as the names of those who led and made possible the beginning and development of the profession librarian in Chile, staying in evidence the vital support received in the first years of the career from American institutions.
