dc.description.abstractThe following research seeks to describe the process of growth and projection that public libraries have been developed in Chile since the return to democracy in the country. Based on literature review and interviews with those involved in the work of public libraries in the last twenty years, the thrust of the study is to establish a relationship between social and political processes of nations and the development of cultural institutions deepening the democratic and republican values through public libraries.
