Camecuaro Lake is located on the Tangancicuaro Michoacan Municipality. It´s conformed by two kinds of ecosystems: one terrestrial (“galleria” forest) and one aquatic (lake of crystalline water). This junction by itself, give a natural landscape beauty that is so important to preserve, since historically the Lake is a traditional recreation area for the locals and the region ones, and despite its limited extension (12.14 hectares) receives a big tourist affluence of an average of 250,000 visitors a year. The Lake was decreed as a National Park an June 18th 1940, and as such, since 1979 is managed by the municipality through a directive counsel. However, as a consequence of a very deficient management it presents ecological degradation which is reflected in some ecosystem characteristics such as diminishing of spring flow, sedimentation and lake pollution, “galleria” forest deterioration, as well as the presence of solid waste. Due to these, the main objective of this project was to realize a management and administration proposal, which allows establishing activities, actions and basic guidelines to guarantee the conservation of the natural resources. To get this accomplished, the MICCA (Integrated Lake Basin Management) was used, proposed by the ILEC (International Lake Environment Committee), this mentioned methodology is integrated by two phases: the understanding of the resources and the governance. As a summary is the involving of different strategic actors: The political, finance and technological institutions and the involved actors participation, giving as a result the integration of nature, the detection and solution of problems, in an action program to prevent future scenery. This proposal of management will allow to endow to the management of the Park with the necessary tools to achieve a sustainable development of the protected natural area, ensuring its preserving.
