Proceso mejorado para la obtención de alginato de sodio a partir del alga Macrocystis pyrifera

Abstract

We have developed a process for obtaining sodium alginate soluble powder from the algae Macrocystis pyrifera. This process can be used industrially. It differs from the classic methods in that it saves water (68%), energy (process run at room temperature), reagents and time. With our process we obtain a yield of 24.4% sodium alginate with a viscosity of 440 cps in a 1.25% solution. This corresponds to a product of medium viscosity of the commercial alginates.
