Economics is a science in its main objectives is to find the social welfare. Constantly changing needs over time, geographical area, the weather, etc., what is indisputable is that the population continues to increase in number, and thus the exploitation of natural resources.
Environmental issues become essential in decision making to determine the product of a nation, as the indiscriminate use exhausting them and loose ends to the detriment negative externalities of human development.
The following paper shows innovative implementations that have been made in the State of Mexico, according to the standards proposed by international organizations. Designed to try to reverse some negative effects of deforestation.
Payment for environmental services (ESP) is a program that encourages caregivers of forest resources to continue doing under the commitment to receive a monetary amount that might help to improve their income. The commitment to them is to maintain optimal conditions for development of forests.
Descriptive statistics was obtained from surveys of 10 communities and ejidos State of Mexico, an analysis was performed if there are benefits for society. Then a comparison was performed with the opportunity cost of forest harvesting on payment received from the PSA.
The results showed that the monetary benefits should be a restructuring of the amount actually given by the two institutions and PROBOSQUE CONAFOR (the government is the only one who participated in this new market of environmental services), as figures determined that is less than the cost of use. However, the benefits are even greater, because there is a great available to continue making inroads into these programs. The organization, harmony, health, as well as awareness of environmental care are a few examples shown throughout this thesis.
The hypothesis of this thesis is true, if there are social benefits with the implementation of the ESP, but there is still work to do and many propose to improve these green initiatives.
