During menopause, women undergo diverse physical and psychological alterations as part in their hormonal changes in this stage of life. The oral cavity is not the exception, since the prevalence of alterations in the dental enamel as well as in other oral symptoms is increased. The evolution of this pathology involves many alterations, from decay to the loss of dental pieces. Although the habitual treatment consists of the topical or systemic application of fluorine, the reported toxicity of this compound has generated the necessity to look for alternative therapies with less toxicity and the same or greater effectiveness. Fluorine is the indicated treatment for the demineralization of the enamel,. However, in spite of putting the patient at risk with the toxicity of flourine, the use of this treatment has not achieved the primary objective of fortifying the structure of the tooth. To treat this condition, the clinical practice of homeopathic medicine has traditionally used Mercurius solubilis. Its profile of basic and clinical safety is far better than that of fluorine. Nevertheless, we lack well-designed and well-controlled clinical studies that demonstrate such assertions. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to demonstrate, through a controlled, double blind, randomly assigned clinical test, the effectiveness and safety of Mercurius solubilis in the treatment of dental demineralization of menopause patients, inhabitants of México City.
