dc.description.abstractBackground: The caregiver role is often stressful and exhausting, both physically and emotionally, so that they become vulnerable to depression and anxiety. Objective: Determine the psychoaffective profile of primary caregivers of older adults. Material and methods: We conducted a descriptive transversal study for 5 months, where we interviewed primary caregivers of older adults admitted to the Geriatric Module HGZ 27 IMSS. It was applied the test for depression and anxiety Halmiton caregivers under 60 years; in those over this age were used Geriatric Depression Scale Yesavage and Goldberg anxiety, everyone is a survey of socio-demographic profile and scale Zarit, and obtained the geriatric assessment of older adults. Statistical analysis: we used means, standard deviation, frequencies, percentages. Results: The study included 60 primary caregivers of older adults had a mean age of 49.7 + 14.4 years, data showed 46.7% depression and anxiety 45%. The sociodemographic profile of primary caregivers was: female, housewife, daughter of older adults with primary or secondary schooling, living with the patient. Data caregiver overload occurred in 39.2% and 33.3% of caregivers, who were in depression and anxiety respectively. Conclusion: The psychoaffective profile primary caregiver of the elderly have data on depression and anxiety. It is desirable to identify caregivers at high risk for these affective disorders, to carry out interventions to prevent or limit the deterioration of their mental health and thereby improve the quality of care of the elderly
