General Objective: To evaluate the effect of moxibustion on clinical severity in patients with airway allergy.
To assess the effect of moxibustion on the levels of IgE in patients with airway allergy. Methodology: We evaluated the total of 15 patients with airway allergy, previously diagnosed by physician otolaryngologist, peripheral blood sample was taken (5 ml) to each patient, at the beginning and end of treatment to assess levels of IgE dare ELISA technique. Weekly questionnaires were applied to assess the severity of symptoms in allergic rhinitis and for the nasal and non-nasal symptoms. We applied a total of 10 sessions of moxibustion, 2 times per week using Zusanli (E36), Pishu (V20), Shenshu (V23) and Feishu (V13) acupoints with pure moxa suspended at a distance of 2 cm. circular technique in the sense of clockwise to patient tolerance, about 25 to 30 minutes in total.
Results: the tendency of patients studied was grabbing the decrease in the severity of symptoms with a statistically significant p <0,005, resulting in a reduction of symptoms in general above 50%.
As the concentration of IgE in serum of patients studied at the beginning and end, taking into account normal IgE values ranging from 5 IU / ml and 150U I / ml, finding that the start was at 6.66% levels high, 86.6% in normal and 6.66% at low levels, and the final 6.66% was found at high levels, 73% within normal levels, and 20% below normal levels of IgE .
Conclusions: The moxibustion applied to Zusanli (E36), Pishu (V20), Shenshu (V23) and Feishu (V13) acupoints causes a decrease in the severity of symptoms in patients with airway allergy (p<0,005) statistically significant. With regard to the study of IgE, this show variability in the concentrations, so we can say that these changes were not dependent on treatment with moxibustion apparently.
