Water bodies environmental decay in the State of Michoacán, has been increasing in recent decades, such as the case of the Lake of Cuitzeo, where various channels and streams-flow, providing important loads of pollutants, which decreases the assimilation capacity of the reservoir. The main contributor is the Río Grande de Morelia, which carries downloaded domestic and industrial wastewater, wastewater services, and agricultural returns, among others, to be discharged into the Lake of Cuitzeo. In this paper, an assessment of the spatial variation conditions of water quality is done through the determination of the dissolved oxygen increment and by the removal of the biochemical oxygen demand in the river Rio Grande de Morelia. For this purpose, numerical simulation using the QUAL2E program was used and there were identified critical areas and their originating. Concurrently, with the treatment of the mentioned downloads, it was enabled the display of different scenarios and the corresponding influence on the assimilation of capacity of the stream. To perform these simulations it was structured a monitoring network along the sites of interest, which defined control sections, where measurement campaigns were implemented for physicochemical parameters, for each one of the sections of the stream. In addition there were performed preliminary and complementary works for the simulation, such as the topographic configuration of the stream, the geometric and hydraulic conditions and characteristics, and the determination of parameters, coefficients and physical constants and quality of water. The determination of these aforementioned elements allows you to build a database that is not only essential for the programme QUAL2E simulations, but it will too contribute to the collection of data for future studies that contribute towards the implementation of in well-structured policies aimed to the development of sanitary programs and for controling the pollution of the streams.
