Abstract

This study aims to arouse environmental awareness and sensitize students of 4th and 5th year and the school community about the importance of preserving the stream that runs through the area of the Escola Municipal de Ensino Fundamental 21 de Abril, Panambi/RS. We tried to identify the human actions that have occurred in recent five years in relation to the stream; its source and its around ecosystem were studied to know the effects of the occupation of the watershed and by through environmental education strategies that lead students to recognize new forms of action which may preserve him. Those involved in this research were students of 4th and 5th grade aged between 9 and 13. A questionnaire was applied to set up the profile of students diagnosed and the degree of environmental perception of them to stream. The site surveyed the stream and they source, where students observed the impacts of human action about this. For the literature review were used data gathered through books, web sites, cartographic materials, monographs, theses, old records at the school on the subject, and interventions carried out through practical lessons. The results showed that students understand the effects of the occupation on surrounding stream with the human action and were sensitized about the importance of stream preservation resulting in sustainability of the ecosystem life.
