Abstract

Objectives: Characterize the relevance of preventing hearing loss, to approach the insertion of the speech therapist in the Unified Health System and report the importance of this professional in the clinical and management areas within the hearing health care. Method: Descriptive research, through documents analysis. Results: The presence of a speech therapist is essential in the implementation of hearing health care services, because he/she will conduct the exams, in addition to advertising the service. Diagnosis of hearing loss could be done earlier. After the detection of hearing loss, the speech therapists may work with patients from the waiting list for the receiving of hearing aids. Prevention of hearing loss in workers may also be explored. Conclusions: It was concluded that users will benefit from detection exams for hearing loss. The insertion of the speech therapist in the Unified Health System is very important, and the role of this professional in the clinical and management areas within the hearing health care may increase.
