This paper discusses the energy efficiency theme and its principles, referencing the HVDC transmission in High Voltage Direct Current as one of alternatives in this context. During the theoretical framework, a brief history of the evolution of HVDC transmission, their advantages and disadvantages and some features of its control system are presented. After the objectives of the study and the methodology are described some benchmarking criteria of transmission systems based on economic criteria and presented some information about transmission losses in Direct Current (DC). Also is performed a comparison of costs and losses between the HVDC system and the High Voltage Alternate Transmission (HVAC). In this context are presented graphs and illustrations, showing that this technology properly interpreted, allowing improving energy efficiency in certain applications.
