This study aims to determine the national scientific production on the subject of childhood obesity in the last eight years. In searches, was used as the virtual library, database health covering databases: La Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences (Lilacs), Scientific ElectronicLibrary Online (Scielo), National Library of Medicine (Medline) , Latin American and Caribbean Center of Information in Health Sciences (BIREME), Monograph Essay, Legislation System in Health, Law on Sanitary Surveillance and Print Magazine Nutrition Brazil. We selected articles from scientific journals of the past eight years (2008-2016) and books. Publications of the World Health Organization (WHO), Ministry of Health of Brazil (MS). Excess weight is already a problem that affects one fifth of the child population and may result in a future generation of obese because obese children become obese and 80% of these are well into adulthood also with obesity. Characterized as a disease of exogenous and endogenous causes, social variables, economic and psychological, involving environmental and genetic factors, being considered a public health problem. Thus, there is the need for intervention to reduce the rapid growth of childhood obesity, including behavior changes at early ages. Therefore, the role of the elucidation of parents and society about the healthy food choices, taking into account all the emotional aspects involved in the act of feeding is a child, decisive in increasing the weight it supports the importance of public policies for the prevention of obesity in this age group in order to make minimum the epidemiological consequences of chronic diseases originating from this condition.
