dc.description.abstract | The aim of this study was to determine the variables that influence the selection of companies for
the Exame Magazine Sustainability Guide. The variables analyzed were: firm size, sector of
activity, location, participation in the stock market, stock control, ownership and participation in
the ISE corporate sustainability index. It was used as the database the 500 largest Brazilian
companies, from 2012, listed by the magazine “Exame Melhores e Maiores”, and the 21 model
companies in 2012, according to the Sustainability Guide published by the same magazine. To
develop the model for risk factors associated with the selection of these companies to the Exame
Sustainability Guide the logistic regression technique was used. Among the tested covariates,
sector of activity, stock control and participation in the ISE, were statistically significant, what
suggests that firms whose activities use directly natural resources and/or modify the environment;
that are more internationalized, controlled wholly or partly by foreign countries; and forming part
of the ISE are more likely to be selected for the guide. It is believed that the findings of this study
contribute to and expand the understanding of the business characteristics that may influence
practices of Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Sustainability. Furthermore, the
results can serve as a reference for future research, both in relation to corporate environmental
and social issues, and in relation to the logistic regression. | |
