The articles were made using the Virtual Health Library - BVS / BIREME, based on data from the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO). To search for articles used the terms "nutrition" and "cardiovascular diseases". Inclusion criteria were: the last ten years, only the Portuguese language, full articles online. The review process of articles found in the research, three categories emerged: Cardiovascular disease and risk factors; cardiovascular disease, dietary intake and nutritional status; Cardiovascular disease, treatment and prevention. Obesity, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes mellitus, abdominal fat, metabolic syndrome, physical inactivity and poor diet, they showed risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease. Adequate food, low in trans fats, high in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, soy, olive oil and fish as well as changes in lifestyle with the adoption of physical exercise significantly reduce the risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease.
