Resumen
This paper set up as a descriptive case study that aimed to verify the nutritional status and the perception of body image of 23 students from 7 to 9 years of age, of both sexes from a public school in the city of Passo Fundo-RS. The students underwent assessment of body mass index with benchmarks of Count and Monteiro (2006) for analysis of nutritional status and to estimate the body satisfaction, was used the Silhouette Scale proposed by Tiggemann and Wilson-Barret (1998). From the reviews found a mean BMI for the 11 boys of 16,5kg/m² and for the 12 girls 18.2 kg/m² with normal classification and overweight respectively. Observing the absolute scores realizes that the male participants were classified individually in a one boy with low body weight; eight with normal-weight and two with overweight. In the girls case, seven girls were with normal body weight; three with overweight and two with a degree of obesity. As the analysis of Body Silhouette Scale were found four boys dissatisfied by low body weight; five dissatisfied by excess weight and two satisfied with their body image. For the girls, two are dissatisfied by low weight; nine dissatisfied by overweight and only one is satisfied with their body image. Concluding the study, in general the students evaluated are with proper body weight for age, but most of the boys and girls are dissatisfied with their body image because they would like to have a lower body image than actually have.
