Objectives: Review of disease in blacks. Methods: We performed a literature search in the last 10 years, the database Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), using the keywords "disease," "race" and "black". Using as criteria: publication in Portuguese, articles available online during the period mentioned above. Results: Fifteen articles reviewed and classified as: race, color and health, which relate to skin color and socioeconomic conditions with an individual's health, racial inequalities x mortality highlight racial inequities that are linked to ethnicity, placing them in a situation of vulnerability to diseases and deaths. In the articles classified as diseases and risk factors in black came the following conditions: hypertension, sickle cell anemia, acute chest syndrome, gonococcal and chlamydial infection, hypertensive retinopathy, as diseases of greater pre-disposition in this population. And studies of rare diseases such as post-inflammatory elastolysis and cutis laxa, idiopathic polypoid choroidal vasculopathy suggest how the risk factor is the black race. Even in diseases inform peculiarities in pigmented skin, dermatologists warning about the variations of diseases in individuals blacks. Conclusion: The social health requires measures for eradication of racism, economic measures to reduce poverty through effective public policies, thus improving the condition health and quality of life in this population.
