Resumen
Hemato-oncological diseases are one of the greatest challenges on the world scene, accounting for a quarter of all deaths worldwide. Emergency and emergency services are important in caring for this scenario. This study aimed to know the perception of nurses and physicians about the assistance to people with hemato-oncological diseases treated in an emergency and emergency unit of a general hospital. It is a qualitative research with an exploratory-descriptive approach. The study scenario was an emergency and urgency unit belonging to a university hospital, public, general care, located in the southern region of Brazil. The participants were six nurses and six physicians. Data collection was performed through semi-structured interviews and occurred in the period from September to November 2017. Data were analyzed through Minayo's Operational Proposal. The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Santa Maria with certificate of presentation for ethical evaluation number 69116717.9.0000.5346. The results were organized into three categories: the person with cancer in the view of nurses and doctors; integral care to the person with cancer or de-characterization of the service? and the emergency and emergency unit scenario: the repercussions on care. The process of population sickness due to hemato-oncological diseases is increasingly accelerated and already poses challenges to the country's public and social policy agenda. In this way, emergency and emergency units also need to be prepared to meet this increasingly present demand in this scenario.
