This master dissertation presents the development of current control strategies and the development of rotor speed observers using Backstepping algorithms. The Backstepping algorithm is a recursive method used for construction of the a feedback control law from Lyapunov functions. Two current controlers are proposed, the first one is based on the observed rotor flux and the second one is based on a disturbance observer, both controlers using Backstepping algorithm. Three method for rotor speed estimation are developed. The first method is called Z-Type Backstepping Observer, wich uses adittional variables, based on rotor flux and rotor speed. The second rotor speed observer is based on a combinated sliding mode and Backstepping method. In this scheme, the rotor speed is obtained from the auxiliary variables estimated by both methods. Moreover, an adaptive law for rotor speed estimation is developed from Lyapunov functions and disturbance observer. Simulation and experimental results are presented to validate the proposed schemes.
