Resumen
This work presents the synthesis, characterization of copper (II) complexes and the
potential of these compounds to mimic the catalytic activity of the enzyme superoxide
dismutase.
The complexes were obtained from the aldol condensation between substituted
aromatic hydrazides and aromatic aldehydes (salicylic aldehyde and pyridoxal
hydrochloride), resulting in eleven new copper (II) complexes. The complexes were
structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction, cyclic voltammetry and complementary
analysis.
Subsequently, the compounds were evaluated for their antioxidant activities, using the
NBT (Nitro blue tetrazolium chloride) photoreduction methodology. The results
obtained for complexes derived from benzoic 4-amino hydrazide and benzoic 4-
methoxy hydrazide with pyridoxal were considered promising for in vivo testing.
