This dissertation consists of studies containing a bibliographic research on the subject in the
work values and managerial skills grounded in research instrument applied to public
managers of a federal teaching hospital organization. The theoretical framework will be
brought conceptual approaches and understandings of American schools, French and
Brazilian seeking to enrich the studies on work values and perceptions of managers of a
public hospital on the concept of managerial skills. The research assumes that professional
interpreting skills in different ways, increasing the adoption of different understandings with
little uniformity. Thus we seek to first identify the importance of values for managers in the
workplace and their perceptions regarding managerial skills required for the management of
hospital organizations, through the semantic analysis of this issue and propose some
hypotheses about the cause and impacts of these different interpretations of the practical
application of the concept. The work is a telling case study of a quantitative research with
managers of different levels of a federal public hospital organization of higher education in
Rio Grande do Sul, seeking to identify the influence of personal values at work and what
their perceived skills and required in the performance of its activity as a manager, if applied,
can bring better results in the management of organizational processes. This required the
study of values influences at work to check whether or not in skills training and how they can
influence managers in their decision making processes.
