A política de redução de danos enquanto alternativa possível ao proibicionismo do consumo de drogas no Brasil

The increased consumption of drugs is a phenomenon that has been noticed in contemporary societies. Considering a context based on capitalist ideals, where the logic of consumption oriented social relationships, the use of drugs emerges as a way of achieving convictions imposed by the social model. Drug use has been treated for many years in Brazil by a prohibitionist and punitive policy. The implementation of this policy did not came close to achieve the objective of eliminating drug’s use in the country and has not demonstrated improvements in reducing the risks and damages brought by the consumption of these substances. So, we realize the need to discuss about the public policies related to the problem of drugs, in search of changes that might bring greater benefits to society and the users of psychotropic substances life quality. This paper presents criticisms about prohibition of the consumption of psychoactive substances, defending the use of harm reduction policy as an alternative mean to address the issue, as an attempt to obtain more effective results in hopes of lowering the risks and social harm caused by drug consumption. For the preparation of this monograph was used legal and bibliographic basis. Was used in this paper as a method of approach the dialectical, analyzing the object of research from its contradictions and social dynamics. As a method of procedure was used the comparative, comparing the foundations and results of prohibitionist drug consumption and practices of harm reduction policies. As a research technique was made use of the literature and study of case.
