Project management is crucial to determine a project's success. Many projects fail because of lack of time estimates, scopes poorly designed and unknown risks among other reasons that determine the failure of a project. Using the techniques and tools of Project Management is possible to have more control over the project, defining in a more efficiently way the risks, time, schedule and other aspects. Risks can be considered one of the main factors for projects' failure, thus why the study about them and also how to manage them effectively. The processes currently available in the PMBOK helps to better manage risk inside the projects by providing various tools and techniques that help to identify, analyze, plan responses, monitor and control risks, being currently an world reference guide in project management. This work
approaches the concept of risk management in IT projects using the PMBOK and presents a study on managing risks using the PMBOK guide as a reference. It also presents the development of a system that helps the team and the project manager to better manage risk inside the projects, following the concepts covered in the PMBOK and a case study of risk management in a project to create an ecommerce, using the system developed to assist in managing the risks of it.
