This research constitutes a work of conclusion of course presented to the Degree Course in
Education Special Night. Its objective is to analyze how the teaching and training of the necessary
skills for the performance of the requested function to the person with intellectual disability in the field
of work. Currently the labor legislation guarantees the hiring of people with disabilities in the quota
system, but for the person with intellectual disability, the hiring rate is still very low compared to the
implementation of the law for other types of disabilities. Often the position offered to the person with
intellectual disability is the simplest one judged by the inability to perform a complex or more
responsible function, without taking into consideration what the subject is able to perform. Therefore,
thinking about how training and teaching happens, taking into account the abilities of the disabled
person, can influence and elevate performance and motivation in the work area. The importance of
this study in the possibility of knowing how this process occurs within the companies is justified. Thus,
the methodology of this work is based on qualitative research, through a case study. The data
collection instrument is organized in semi-structured interviews, both for the employee with intellectual
disability and for the person responsible for hiring and / or monitoring the work in the company. From
the analysis of the data collected, it was possible to perceive the influence of the law on the hiring of
people with disabilities, the important role of institutions in the indication of subjects interested in
entering the labor Market. In the training and teaching aspect, the company's main focus is on
training, for the correct fulfillment of the job activity, which is shown through observations and
reproduction of activities. A colleague explains the task, shows how, and then asks the disabled
employee to reproduce it. Alreadyteaching, it was not possible to verify through this research, it is
believed that to understand this aspect is necessary a more in-depth study, with observations of the
subject in his work environment. In addition to these aspects, it was verified the importance of work
for people with disabilities, in which can be seen the contribution to personal and intellectual growth of
the subject. Given the results presented, it is important to expand the studies in this area, which may
support companies that seek to invest adequately in hiring people with disabilities by collaborating
with the inclusion and visibility of the subject.
