The following paper aimed at relating speech disorders and parental speech (parental meaning given to the children), presenting its consequent implications in Speech Therapy Treatments. The basis was a qualitative methodology through Content Analysis. Eighteen pairs of relative/legal responsible-child diagnosed with having Speech Disorder and sent to the Language and Speech Study Center of the Speech Therapy Service at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM). The used instruments were: analysis of the relative-child interaction, in which the pair communication and the constitution of the Subject was observed; the Parental Speech Interview, where the parents wishes concerning the child were checked, the meaning given to the speech disorder and its consequences; and the Patient s Record File, which were used as complementary information to the data. The initial results, obtained through the generalization of the Interview data, compare the participants in what concerns parental meaning to the child and the disorder. It was observed that, besides the behavioral and temper characteristics of the children being connected to the parental speech, they did not present any relation with the Speech Disorder, being unfeasible to point any psychic cause related to the disorder. It was possible to notice through a particular view on each case, obtained through the Interaction Analysis plus the interviews, a lack of space to the children s speech in 78% of the cases. It was testified that in 60% of the cases the children were not able to appropriate their own speeches (they could not speak and communicate their wishes through their speech parts), because there was no subjective space available to them. This way, through the discussions raised in comparison to the information on the Patient s Record Files, it was possible to infer clinical interventions in Speech Therapy: the adoption of meanings that are part of the child s history during the service; the dislocation of the language concept as object for the language as function; as well as the suggestion of a look at the transference topics between clinic and patient. Therefore, the research could reach the goal of associating Speech disorder to the space directed to the child through parental meanings and launch new therapeutic directions to Speech Therapy, based on the Psychoanalytic Theory.
