The city of Lajeado, in Rio Grande do Sul, and its surroundings was essentially settled by German immigrants. The settlers who arrived in the área in the second decade of 1800, were responsible for the implementation of the first German-Brazilian schools in that district. This research, which is qualitative, is embedded in a field of research called History of Mathematics Education and has the objective at knowing the mathematics teaching in Catholic parochial schools. To achieve this goal, textbooks were described and analyzed, among them, the book Rechenbuch für Deutiche Schulen in Brasilien of Mathäus Grimm and the analysis was performed under a socio-historical perspective. This research aims to contribute to the better understanding how of teachers learning the process of mathematics happened in this region and how this process influenced and continues to influence the current educational scenario.
