The dissertation Breaking the fences of bourgeois education: the struggle to build a school in the Madre Terra settlement, São Gabriel/RS followed the actions of farmers in construction and administrative and pedagogical organization of a school. Having as a goal "To verify the expectations and struggles of the settlers in relation to building a school in Settlement Madre Terra in San Gabriel / RS". This study is characterized as qualitative research one of the type case study. For this, we used documentary research, questionnaires and interviews. In order to comply this objective, this paper is divided into three chapters. The first, titled "The agrarian question in Brazil: reviewing the history ", a historical review, divided into six periods, the agrarian question in Brazil , it concluded that the concentration of land ownership in our country is historical. The second chapter, "Education, society and class struggles" addresses the role of the school as the reproduction of social order, in contrast with the desired school by the Movement of the Agricultural Workers Without Land (MST) and the contribution of this struggle and movement - from 1990s - along with other sectors of civil society to the public policy of Field Education. The third chapter deals with the results of the research itself, titled "The fight for school in the Terra Madre settlement, São Gabriel/RS", in which we concluded that the construction of the school in the settlement was mainly due the organization and action of settlers and the desire to have a school is not isolated, both because the demand for it has always been accompanied by other elements of the struggle of infrastructure, and because the other settlements of Sao Gabriel/RS are in a similar situation and also aims solving the same problems. Moreover, we found that parents of Madre Terra want a different old school attended by their children until the end of the school year of 2013 and that the school 's settlement is a way for them to remain in rural areas, however, whether this achievement is not associated with the resolution of other problems faced by them, the exit of the field is inevitable.
