Currently, the inflammatory disorders are believe to strongly correlate with the condition of oxidative stress. Amongst them, one of the most studied is atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a disease of great world-wide importance, due to the high mortality of decurrently clinical conditions of the illness, as acute myocardial infarction and stroke. The oxidized lipoproteins, especially the oxidized low density lipoprotein (LDL-ox), are present in the plasma of patients with atherosclerosis. Studies have demonstrated that the modification of the LDL is an important factor in the development of the illness. Therefore, the determination of the plasma LDL-ox is essential not only to investigate its relevance for the atherosclerotic diseases, but also to help in the diagnosis of these illness. Studies of the susceptibility of the LDL to oxidation, measurements of LDL oxidation products, immunological assays to research LDL-ox and antibodies against LDL-ox have been carried through as markers of risk for development of atherosclerosis, and consequently, of serious cardiac and vascular events. This work briefly argues some methods of evaluation of the oxidation of the LDL.
