This works presents the results of a research about the school evaluation in the context of the
student learning and approaching the institutional evaluation as imperative to the process of
quality in education. The study sought to understand the concepts of evaluation and to analyze
how a city school from Ibirapuitã/RS develops its activities and evaluation methods and
prepares for participating in the institutional evaluations carried out by government.
Developed through a qualitative research, planned with a questionnaire for the parents, the
teacher and the principal of a primary school 5 th grade class, this work analyzed and gave
theoretical basis to the main themes related to education starting from the assumption that the
present teaching institutions follow the democratic management and do their activities from
decisions which are took from all the collectivity and are compromised by all the member of
the school community. Seeking to analyze the teaching-learning process of the students and
trying to understand how the evaluation of teachers done in the institution contributes to the
development of this process, it was obtained information about the concern of evaluating well,
enriching the students, however, it is not completely known what the teachers can do and how
they can act. Besides, when knowing the local reality what can be assimilated is that even
trying to participate in the student’s school life the parents, for a cultural matter, observe
distantly the results as they are not active members of this process.
