Idosos com hipertensão arterial sistêmica autorreferida: condições de saúde e capacidade funcional

Systemic arterial hypertension, with a significant incidence in the elderly population, associated with functional disability and other comorbidities, constitute public health problems. This study aimed to verify the functional capacity and comorbidities of elderly patients with systemic arterial hypertension. This is a cross-sectional, population-based study using questionnaires with sociodemographic, behavioral, anthropometric, morbidity, drug use and functional capacity assessments. We interviewed 286 elderly individuals who referred for arterial hypertension. A predominance of the female sex (70.3%), age between 60 and 70 years (40.6%) was observed, and attended the school from 0 to 4 years (55.9%). Regarding functional capacity, 74.8% maintained it, independently for daily life activities. Of the hypertensive elderly, it was verified that most of them maintain their functional capacity preserved, however, approximately one quarter have functional dependence with limitations to carry out activities of daily living.
