dc.description.abstractThis work discusses the results of research into the performance and the challenges of school management in public schools, before the presence of psychoactive substances among young people of school age. The survey sought to know how the school managers plan and implement activities which contribute to minimize this problem and its consequences. The methodological procedures adopted in anticipation of a qualitative approach, have been the case study on the subject, considering the analysis of the school's documentation and data gathering via questionnaire opened with managers. It was noted that the management of the schools participating in the study is based on a traditional model, which centralizes policy decisions in the team, leaving the teacher's responsibility to plan and teach the classes, which makes this not feel Manager of the educational process. In this scenario, the activities are carried out in isolation and, consequently, stumble into obstacles that could be minimized if the work was collective. Although the presence of psychoactive substances is a social problem that worries teachers / managers, it is perceived that activities are carried out separately for those who feel able, or those who, while not dominating the subject in a profound way, believe in the need to position themselves. In this context, the practice continued training involving the subject in question, as the exercise of a democratic management are seen as essential in order to obtain significant results, when the subject involves moving young people's desire for rapprochement at to psychoactive substances.
