The purpose of this study was to verify if the previous life style, since the age of 30 years, of healthy women that have been in the menopause for 5 years, influences their bone mineral density. The study group was constituted of thirteen women, with a mean age of 53,6 years, that had not been on hormonal replacement therapy and had a recent bone densitometry exam. The instrument used to verify their previous life style was an interview, and to analyze the bone mineral density, a copy of the bone densitometry exam was taken. The results obtained related to physical exercise since bone mass peak, showed that the majority of the studied women had a sedentary life style between the ages of 30 and 45 years and nowadays are more worried in keeping themselves active. The women classified as active today, chose walking and strength training, with a mean of three times a week, but did not obtain significant results on trunk, because of the short period that are exercising. The results permit to conclude that the practice of physical exercise is extremely important, especially with overweight, in the adolescence as well as in subsequent years when there is a gradual loss in bone mineral density.
