dc.description.abstractThis thesis aims to analyze the agrarian context of poultry production from Santa Maria do Herval which is one of the main agricultural activities in this county and the impact of public policies in its rural areas. The study refers to a descriptive exploratory study of qualitative characteristics, carried out with the poultry farmers of the county and also with representatives of refrigerators and queries regarding the bibliographies subject in epigraph. This work presents the contemporary transformations, both micro and macroeconomic, mostly from the 1980s, which caused the poultry industry to expand dramatically, especially in terms of productivity. In this case, it is noteworthy that have been entrusted to farmers new ways of organizing family group in order to adapt to changes of all kinds of rural-agricultural. In addition, there is new emphasis on understanding processes of rural development, focusing on new forms of social reproduction, based mainly on agriculture pluriactivity or part-time, which define the economic reality of the poultry industry in the city, besides the importance of claims of social movements and the creation of public policies for the promotion of this activity, especially being cited Pronaf - National Family Farming program, created in 1996, with emphasis on the Line More Food, and the Municipal Program to Encourage Poultry, created in 2009 and reconfigured in 2011. From this context, it is presented the production characteristics seen in the city, as well as, it is characterized the specifics of family structure and future projections of poultry farmers, which in turn, shape the reality and allow allocation strategies for the same. Finally, it is pointed to possible future market scenarios that the poultry industry, which at the present moment, is strongly conditioned with consumer concerns, with the continuous consumption of chicken meat, with the importance of creating continuous public policies of promotion and socio-political recognition of the sector, with productive specialization and also under the effects of globalization.
