Portuguese teaching and learning requires a lot of reading, attention and dedication from both teacher and students, since reading and writing is not an attractive task to develop in schools nowadays. Despite many benefits, the simplified use of words on the media has been realized with the intention to save time. This article aims to report the results of a case study conducted during the period from May to June in a state school in Santa Maria RS. This study used the Educational Social Network Edmodo to produce argumentative posts to promote learning of the mother tongue with students in the high school. The production of posts were used to investigate linguistic resources that students used for communication. The results suggest that students feel encouraged and confortable to use the Educational Social Networking Edmodo, exploring mainly verbal and nonverbal language to produce argumentative posts.
