Resumen
Introduction: Currently, the repercussions of obesity are not still established about the
respiratory muscular function. It is known it is modified but not necessarily decreased.
Objective: To evaluate comparatively the respiratory muscular function of adolescents with overweight/obesity degree I and healthy adolescents.
Method: 28 adolescents had been part of the study; 14 healthy individuals and 14
individuals with overweight/obesity degree I, who attended routine consultations in the
pediatrics clinic at the University Hospital of Santa Maria. The individuals had been
submitted to the measure of the corporal mass, stature, calculation IMC and measure of the respiratory pressures (maximum inspiratory pressure and maximum expiratory pressure). After the evaluations, the groups were compared each other.
Results: There was statistical significant difference in the variable: corporal mass, IMC,
maximum inspiratory pressure and maximum expiratory pressure when it was compared the groups, while the group with overweight/obesity degree I had excellent performance in the measure of the maximum respiratory pressures.
Conclusion: The respiratory muscular function in adolescents with overweight/obesity
degree I is presented better than those in healthy adolescents.
