dc.description.abstractThe present research had the objective of analyzing the perception of the community of a school of the Municipal Network of Teaching of Vitória das Missões (RS) about the importance of the position of director for school management. 07 employees participated in the survey. The methodology used was a qualitative approach, and a questionnaire was applied with open questions. The perceptions of the participants of the school community and Municipal Legislation, Law 1,432 / 2008 and Law 2,074 / 2016 were considered for analysis. It was observed in the perceptions, that there is understanding and understanding about the director's attributions, but some understand the position as a mediator and articulating director, while others see it as a centralizer. As for the concepts of school management, some participants approach the administration. Most understand that management is practical that goes beyond administrative, including pedagogical, and that there must be constant participation of the school community in decision making. Regarding the link established with the director, the participants consider it satisfactory, since there is dialogue and construction of collective strategies to reach the results. Differences of meaning were also found in the legislations analyzed, with Law 1,432 / 2008 being more focused on the administrative character and Law 2.074 / 2016 for a conception of democratic management. The importance of the director within a school, the relevance of being a mediator and having a broad vision, in order to articulate the actions developed in the school context, aiming at a quality education.
