dc.description.abstractWriting about participatory school management is a reference to modernize the management of public schools, which since the return to democracy is developing in the Brazilian educational system. Traditionally schools were managed in a centralized manner in which the director had all the decisionmaking powers, but has established itself in the educational society a meaningful discussion, which aims to transform the school management so that it is democratic and participatory, giving opportunities to all school staff, the student body and community to the destinations of school and take part in decision making. This monograph is a discussion about the changes that have occurred and are occurring in school management. The theoretical discussion is grounded in authors like José Carlos Libâneo, Dinair da Hora, Luiz Fernandes Dourado, Hamilton Werneck, Vitor Henrique Paro and other. To complement the speech, we also used the laws dealing with school education, especially the LDB 9394/96. The paper shows the characteristics of a democratic participatory management, contrasting it with the traditional administrations, commonly labeled by authoritarian. The main objective is to establish a discussion on school management, producing a tool for analysis and research for educators who are concerned with the modernization of education, especially when it comes to managing them.
