dc.description.abstract | This study aimed to instigate the students of the elementary school 3rd stage
for the feeling of part belong to the environment and for the responsibility and care with
the same. The activities were developed in the Escola Estadual de Ensino
Fundamental João Carlini, Ajuricaba, RS, searching to identify the environment
conceptions that the students already possessed and lead to the reflection that the
human being and their different conviviality means, as house and school, they are also
part of the environment. After this dialogue, the students were instigated to identify
how they could use the vegetation to preserve and to take care of these environments.
As the focus of the work was the school environment and as way to value the
vegetation already existent in the school, the students mapped and identified the
different arboreal species existent in the school patio and, at the same time, they
verified spaces for the planting of other trees. Identification plates were disposed, with
popular and scientific names, in each arboreal species and also a great map was built
to share the activity developed with the school community. In the sequence, the
planting of the new species was accomplished, and, in groups the students had the
opportunity to plant the seedlings. Afterwards the students accomplished an evaluation
of the activities. In the closing a practice of environmental perception was lead.
Initially, most of the students noticed the environment as something basically
associate to the natural resources and at the end of the work it was noticed the
appearance of a new speech to which the human being was associated and also
linked values to the work in team, cares with our house, school, community and us
same. Besides, the use of the vegetation as instrument of environmental education
was shown positive, because the students were instigated to learning to plant and to
take care of the trees and they noticed that can use them as form of to embellish and
to take care of the environment, feeling responsible for the growth and development of
the seedlings. The activity of environmental perception woke up the exercise of the
citizenship, because to the identify a vacant lot used as garbage deposit in the
proximities of the school the students committed to request in writing, to the can
executive municipal, the installation of a square for the community in this place. This
way, the work of environmental education contributed for the sensitization of a new
environmental conscience and to wake up the responsibility and care with the
