dc.description.abstract | Systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) is a health problem worldwide because of its high prevalence and its association with an increased risk for developing cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and when diagnosed early can prevent the development of cardiovascular complications, since factors gifts in childhood risk may be predictors of hypertension in adulthood. The aim of the study was to estimate the odds ratio or odds ratio (OR) of some risk factors for high blood pressure of teens from 6th to 9th grade, enrolled in public schools in a city in southern Brazil. Cross-sectional study conducted in public schools in a city in southern Brazil, anthropometric variables were evaluated, the blood pressure measurements, investigated the family history of cardiovascular disease, physical activity level assessed by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ ) and the frequency of eating habits through a food frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). The odds ratio of individuals to present risk factors for hypertension was established by estimates of odds ratios, through the binary logistic regression analysis. The sample consisted of 174 adolescents having between 11 and 18 years (12.63 ± 1.68), and 40.8% male. Identified a strong association between obesity and overweight and the odds ratio of developing hypertension (OR = 5.76 95% CI 1.77 18.71), the other independent variables were not considered risk factors for hypertension in population studied. From the results we can say that adolescents with overweight / obese have higher odds ratio of developing hypertension. | |
