dc.description.abstractThe essential stimulation work is important to any child, with or without development delay, however, it gets more significance when is about children with some delay in theirs neurological and psychomotor development (NPD), helping them to deal with the existent difficulties, stimulating theirs potencialities and providing the improvement process of the areas that are in development and/or temporarily inhibited. This article retract the specialized attendance investigation received in the first three years of life, by a group of high-risk newborns for neurological and psychomotor development problems (NPMP) during first three years old, whose needed of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of University Hospital of Santa Maria (UHSM), from 1996 to 2003. For the purpose of the study the newborns were selected by the follow criterion: need of NICU admission which clinical marker for long-term neurological damage was an Apgar score < 7 at first, fifth and tenth minute.
