dc.description.abstract | The degenerative mucinotic mural folliculitis is a rare affection that causes alopecia, rarely described in Brazil, with an immune nature, its mainclinicalfeatureis the facial thickening. It affectsmiddleagedtoolderanimals and predominantly male. The etiologyisuncertain and wouldbe related to the feline immunodeficiency virus. It has a precursor, folliculitis lymphocytic mural, mainly associated with allergic dermatitis, dermatophyteinfection, pancreatic carcinoma and thymiclymphoma. Therapies previously established were with immunosuppressive drugs, keratolytic shampoos and antihistamines have notdemonstrated total efficacy, only contributed in partofresolution of skin lesions. In the final phase of this disease, the animals showed systemic clinicalsigns, such aslethargy, vomit and diarrhea, and invariably die, sothereis some promising prognosis. This paperdescribes a case of a female feline, mixedbreed, 14 yearsold, with the history of alopecia, hyperpigmentation, swelling and flaking with initial face involvement and a year evolutionleadingtosuspicion degenerative mucinotic mural folliculitis, confirmed by histopathology. On this account, it canbe concluded that the diseaseshouldbeincluded in the differential diagnosis of the scaly and hyperpigmented facial alopecia in cats. In addition, it shouldbepointed out that more studies are needed about its pathogenesis. | |
