Abstract
This work was developed in the context of the Integral Attention to Children and Adolescents Program, in Faxinal do Soturno/RS, which is a project that receives children and adolescents who are in situations of social vulnerability. The aim of this study was to assess if the project helps to raise environmental awareness among children and adolescents. In addition, we sought to know the social meaning of the interaction of young people with the “Horto” Project. This research used exploratory methodology, including qualitative analysis, through the use of questionnaires sent to families and the stories of the youth about their experiences in the project. The results showed that “horto” is seen as an environment for socialization, interaction, learning, and fundamentally encouraging values related to environmental preservation practices. In addition to achieving its main objectives, the project contributes to the formation of citizens aware of their actions with the environment.
