This paper tries to understand how the historical process of nucleation from the school system of education in São Paulo das Missões happened, situated in the northwest Rio Grande do Sul state. The research procedures consisted in bibliographic research about authors and papers that talk about the educational theme; in documentary search, collecting the annual enrollment number of students who studied in 24 rural/camp schools of the municipal school system, and research in legislative sources (laws, decrees); and field research in undertaking 14 semistructured interviews with managers, former teachers and alumni from multigrade schools/classes, directors, one community leader, students from the rural/camp schools and alumni of these schools that actually enroll in the public school at the city. It was found that there have been improvements in spending and investments with the municipal education, in work qualification and in teacher training. However, there has been no diversifications in the contents and in the curricular structure, being that education and the teachers of role-schools influence students to work and live in city. In communities affected by schools closures, it was found a decrease of youth participation.
