Resumen
The aim of this study was to verify, through speech pathologic, orthodontic and
cephalometric evaluation, the effect of Pre Orthodontic restricted treatment and the
associated Miofunctional Therapy in mouth breathing children with malocclusion in
development. The sample of this study was formed by 5 children, both sexes, with
age range from 8 to 12 years old. From initial estimations the subjects were
separated into two groups, G1 (with three children) and G2 (with two children),
receiving, respectively, Trainer Pre-Orthodontics associated with Miofunctional
Therapy treatment and restricted Trainer Pre-Orthodontics treatment. After the
average period of one year the children were reexamined. The obtained results
leaded to the conclusions that there were important changes in the muscular
structures and functions of stomatognathic system (tongue and lips posture,
deglutition, masticating, breathing and speech) when speech pathologic and pre
orthodontic intervention were applied at the same time; that the modifications in
osseous and muscular structures were higher when received speech pathologic and
pre orthodontic intervention simultaneously; that the modifications of dental relations
between maxilla and mandible were higher from the osseous relation with these
structures; that the pre orthodontic treatment enable a better dental position,
mandible position and miofunctional training; and finally that the progress obtained
with exclusive pre orthodontic treatment, in what concerns the dental structures, can
be maximized with association with Miotherapy treatment.
