The present search intended to anabpe the importance of School Boards in a articulation of democratic management with a view to educational quality throng of participation and representatively of all communitarian segments. This work constitutes itself, then, of a qualitative boarding, it characterizes itself as a study of case that follows the presuppositions of bibliographical search. The focus of study places itself the analysis of implantation and functioning of School Board of School Municipal Elementary School São José from Mata-RS. The intention is to detach the School Board like a collective organ of fundamental importance to improvement of quality of education, it turns the school in a singular place to practice of participative democracy in order to promove a conscious and engaged citizenship with interests fron local community. For a better understanding, the search was divided in three chapters. The first chapter treats about the concept of democratic management, the second chapter approaches the School Boards and some dimensions that imply them and the third chapter talks about the consolidation and functioning of School Board from School Municipal Elementary School São José Mata-RS. As main result of this study is detached the possibility of to create mechanisms to a mobilization from school community throug of its several segments, the possibilities of get better the quality of education are amplified in an action of united responsibility between the school and the society.
