dc.description.abstractThis article presents a study about the importance of using "media video” in the teaching and learning. In the article we discuss the potential of video as a teaching tool. The work carried out with twenty-five students from first grade of high school in a state school examines the theme of reality show inserted in the movie “The Truman Show, The Show of Life”. The purpose is to analyze how the consumer society receives the images for the reality show and how the creators of the program can manipulate the viewer’s consciousness. The analysis performed by the group of students and teacher shows that the film is primarily a reflection of the power that media has on people and patterns of consumption and behavior exist. The discussion takes place following some methodological steps that will be presented in the work, bearing in mind the relationship of the subject with the cultural industry. It can be argued that the "media video” contributes effectively in the teaching and learning, and can be widely used by educators.
