The use of drama techniques to lower classroom anxiety on the ESL class

Resumen
This study aims to use drama techniques to see the effects on foreign language anxiety
on students of high school in Santiago, Chile.
Using drama activities this research tests language anxiety and its effects during a
period of time performing drama activities. This study used the Foreign Language Classroom
Anxiety Scale (FLCAS). With a one-group pre-test/middle and post-test to see if there is a
statistical reduction of foreign language anxiety.
This study was carried out with 74 students who attended 6-week participating in drama
activities and finishing with a play performance, the findings from the scale were analysed
through the SPSS 20 software. A statistically significant decrease was found in language
anxiety levels of the students who participated in the creative drama programme. Sources of
language anxiety were analysed individually as well as the relationship between anxiety level
and gender
