Resumen
This paper discusses the process of democratization of education management in Brazil, addressing the historical process, laws and documents that consolidate public policies governing its implementation. Dedicated also to examine the role of the school management in the context of democratic management that seek to promote decentralization in schools in organizational practices and planning. Faced with these issues, this study is realized from a qualitative approach, guided by the literature and the documentary analysis. Among the main results, it was found that the democratic management and participation in the school daily and its management processes is not fact already established, but a horizon to be pursued continuously. The pursuit of the democratic ideal in school comes from a wider path, which is the democratization of Brazilian society. It is, therefore, a process that develops through advances and retreats, aimed at achieving an educational model of critical character, emancipatory and effectively committed to improving the quality of education.
